Report & Appeals

Version 1.0 · Effective September 25, 2026 · Last updated September 25, 2026

At a glance

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first. To report a message or a profile, use the report button, or email safety@chatnow.fr; you don't need an account. Intimate images shared without consent are removed no later than 48 hours after a valid request. You can appeal any decision we make. This summary is for convenience; the full text below controls.

1. Report content or a user

Every message and every profile has a report button. Use it and choose the reason that fits.

You don't need a ChatNow account to report. You can also email safety@chatnow.fr or use our contact form. Tell us as much as you can:

  • the username of the person involved;
  • the room or private conversation;
  • the date and approximate time;
  • what happened.

If a child may be at risk, see Report a child at risk.

2. Report intimate images shared without consent (TAKE IT DOWN Act)

If an intimate image of you is on ChatNow without your consent, you can ask us to remove it. This process follows the TAKE IT DOWN Act (47 U.S.C. § 223a). You don't need a ChatNow account.

2.1 Who can ask

The person shown in the image, or someone authorized to act on their behalf.

2.2 How to ask

Use the report button on the photo, message or profile and choose the reason that fits. Or email safety@chatnow.fr, or use our contact form.

2.3 What your request must include

  • Your signature. A physical or electronic signature. Typing your full legal name counts as an electronic signature.
  • The image and where it is. Enough for us to find it: the username, the room, private message or profile gallery, and the date if you know it.
  • A short good-faith statement. A brief statement that you believe in good faith that the image was shared without the consent of the person shown.
  • Your contact information. An email address or another way for us to reach you.

2.4 What we do

  • We confirm your request with a reference number within 24 hours.
  • We remove the image as soon as possible and no later than 48 hours after we receive a valid request, together with the identical copies we know of on ChatNow.
  • We tell you the outcome. If we don't remove the image, we tell you why.

2.5 What this covers

  • Real images and images created or altered with AI.
  • Images stored on ChatNow: photos in rooms, in private messages and in profile galleries.
  • Webcam video is never recorded, so there is no copy for us to remove. If someone exposed you on camera, report the user.

2.6 Stop the image from spreading

If the image was taken when you were under 18, also use Take It Down, run by NCMEC (see also how we protect children). If you're an adult, use StopNCII.org: every image sent on ChatNow is compared with StopNCII hashes, which helps us spot the same image if it comes back.

3. Report hateful conduct

Hateful conduct, as defined in New York General Business Law § 394-ccc, is banned by our Community Guidelines.

To report it, use the report button and choose the reason that fits, or email safety@chatnow.fr. We review it under our Community Guidelines and reply to you directly to tell you how we handled your report.

5. Defamation, impersonation and personal information

We can't decide whether a statement is true or false. If content about you is unlawful, report it to legal@chatnow.fr and tell us where it is. We'll review it under our Community Guidelines (harassment, private information, impersonation) and may remove it. We also act on court orders.

We tell you the outcome of your report. If we act against a user, that user receives a notice with our reasons, the rule applied, whether automation was used, and how to appeal. Our penalties are listed in the Community Guidelines. Reported content is kept for review even after a guest leaves (see data retention).

7. Appeals

You can appeal any decision we make about your content or your account. If you reported something and we decided not to act, you can appeal that decision too.

  • How: use the appeal link in the notice we send you, or email safety@chatnow.fr with your reference number. You can appeal even if you are banned.
  • Who decides: a human reviewer who did not take the original decision, within 14 days. If the original decision was automated, your appeal gets it reviewed by a person.
  • Result: if your appeal succeeds, we restore your content or access and correct our records. If it doesn't, we explain why.
