ChatNow is a free chat with strangers service that runs entirely in your browser. You arrive as a guest, you are matched with a random stranger, and you start typing. There is no registration form, no profile to fill in, and no application to install.
When you leave, your messages and photos are deleted 24 hours later. That is the whole design: talk to someone new now, and leave no lasting footprint behind.
Free · No sign-up · Anonymous
Enter the guest chat - no sign-up, no email, no app.
You do not set anything up. There is no account to create and nothing to confirm by email. The steps below are the entire process.
| Step | What you do | What ChatNow asks for | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Open ChatNow in any browser | Nothing | About 5 seconds |
| 2 | Fill in the guest form and confirm you are 18 or older | A username, your gender, age, and city, then a quick anonymous age check | About 15 seconds |
| 3 | Type your first message | Nothing | First message, about 30 seconds in |
Most "anonymous" chat sites still want an account. In that setup, anonymous chat only means the other person cannot see your name. ChatNow removes the account itself.
Three honest limits, because a promise is only useful if it is specific:
| ChatNow | Typical sign-up chat site | |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Instant guest entry | Email address plus password |
| Profile | None | Username, age, photos |
| Install | None | App store download |
| Cost | Free | Free tier plus paid upgrades |
| Data after you leave | Deleted 24 hours after you leave | Varies - read each site's privacy policy |
| Your email in a database | Not collected | Stored with the account |
We tested the alternative first. Keeping transcript history made moderation slightly easier and made everything else worse: more data to protect, more reasons for someone to sign up with a fake identity, more screenshots of conversations we never intended to hold. A 24-hour window is the compromise we chose. It gives moderators what they need to review a report, and it gives you a chat that does not follow you home.
Anonymity is not the same as lawlessness. ChatNow runs on three rules: adults only, human moderators reviewing reports, and a report button that reaches a person rather than a void.
You must be 18 or older to use ChatNow. This is not a formality.
| If someone does this | Do this |
|---|---|
| Asks you for money or gift cards | Stop the chat. Do not send anything. Report it to ChatNow, and file a report with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. |
| Asks for your address, phone number, or workplace | Do not share it. End the chat if they insist. |
| Threatens you or tries to blackmail you | Report it, keep the details, and contact your local police. You can also file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center. |
| Shares sexual content involving a minor | End the chat. Report it to ChatNow immediately, and contact NCMEC's CyberTipline. |
| Sends content that makes you uncomfortable | End the chat and start a new one. You do not owe anyone a conversation. |
Those limits apply to every form of online chat with strangers. That is exactly why the 18+ rule and the report button exist.
Omegle closed in November 2023, after 14 years. Its founder wrote that running it had become "no longer sustainable, financially nor psychologically," citing the cost and stress of fighting misuse. Chatroulette and OmeTV still operate, and both are video-first.
| ChatNow | Omegle | Chatroulette | OmeTV | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Status | Live | Closed November 2023 | Live | Live |
| Main format | Text chat with strangers | Random video and text | Random video | Random video |
| Account required | No | None for basic use | None for basic use | Varies - check current terms |
| Email required | No | No | No | Varies - check current terms |
| App | None; browser only | Web only | Web-first; app availability varies | iOS and Android apps |
| Cost | Free | Was free | Free | Free |
| Age rule | 18+ | See archived terms | See current terms | See current terms |
| Moderation | Human moderators plus filters | Automated and manual | See current terms | See current terms |
| Report function | Built in | Yes | See current terms | Yes |
| Messages and photos deleted 24 hours after you leave | Yes | No | See current terms | See current terms |
Cells marked "see current terms" are left to the provider on purpose. Those policies change, and we do not republish another company's rules as a claim of our own. Check the official sites for Chatroulette and OmeTV before you sign in anywhere.
One thing to be clear about: ChatNow is not affiliated with Omegle, Chatroulette, or OmeTV, and it is not a clone of any of them.
ChatNow is built for English-speaking adults in the United States, and the room fills up as the country wakes. The US spans four main time zones, plus Alaska and Hawaii, so the busy hours move west across the map through the day.
| Time zone | Standard offset / daylight offset | Cities to think of | Local window to try |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eastern (ET) | UTC−5 / UTC−4 | New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami | Evenings, and after 10 p.m. |
| Central (CT) | UTC−6 / UTC−5 | Chicago, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Minneapolis | Evenings, and after 9 p.m. |
| Mountain (MT) | UTC−7 / UTC−6 | Denver, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Boise | Evenings, and after 8 p.m. |
| Pacific (PT) | UTC−8 / UTC−7 | Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Portland | Evenings, and after 7 p.m. |
The offset data comes from the U.S. Naval Observatory's explanation of US time zones, and timeanddate.com's US zone overview. The "local window to try" column is local-day guidance, not measured traffic data.
The whole process, one more time:
What you are not doing: no sign-up, no email, no profile, no app, no card details, no transcript waiting for you tomorrow.
Enter the guest chat - free, anonymous, no sign-up.
If you want the details behind these claims before you start, the Safety page and the Privacy Policy cover moderation, reporting, the 18+ rule, and the 24-hour deletion window in full. Read them first, then come back and say hello.
